Court Facility Operations/Safety Protocol

DO NOT DISRUPT THE OPERATIONS OF THE OTHER DEPEARTMENTS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE TOWN CLERK, AS THEY CAN NOT ASSIST YOU WITH COURT RELATED MATTERS!

  • Doors open to the public 15 minutes prior to the start of the court session.
  • Only the defendant & his/her attorney will be permitted into the Municipal Building/Court Room. Absolutely NO minor children will be permitted into the Court Room.
  • NO CELL PHONES, FOOD OR BEVERAGES will be permitted inside the Town Municipal Building – secure your phone & all other personal items in your vehicle. We will not be responsible for storage of your cell phones or other personal items. If you have no where safe to secure your items – DO NOT BRING THEM TO COURT!
  • Once you have entered the Court Room you MUST remain seated until your case is called & completed. Those leaving the Municipal Building will be denied re-entry into the building.
  • NO baseball caps will be permitted to be worn once in the Court Room.

No Loitering

  • Standing, sitting, or occupying the foyer for any reason.
  • Individuals will NOT be allowed to congregate in hallways or entry ways while awaiting entry into the Court Room.
  • If you area litigant in Court you shall remain seated in the Court Room.
  • If seats are not available you MUST wait outside the Municipal Building until such time as your are directed to re-enter the premises.

RECORDING, TAPING, PHOTOGRAPHING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Court will be closed for vacation until Aug 4. Staff will be available Weds from 6pm until 9pm. Limited staff hours Tues, weds and Thurs afternoon after 1 pm.

General Court Policies and Procedures

The Town of Waterloo Court can be contacted using any of the above methods. Neither the Judge, nor the Court Clerk are permitted to dispense legal advice or consultation.

Adjournments

The Waterloo Town Court will consider requests for adjournment that are received no less than 24-hours in advance of a scheduled court date. Unless exigent circumstances exist no adjournments will be granted with less than 24-hours advance notice. It is the requesting parties responsibility to confirm that the Court has granted an adjournment request. Failure to do so may result in a “failure to appear” and possible forfeiture of bail.

Court Mail Procedures

Due to rising postage costs and in an effort to mitigate the impacts on taxpayers the Town of Waterloo Court asks the following:

  1. If you submit a plea by mail you must include a self addressed stamped envelope (SASE) so the court can in turn reply to your plea; and indicate the results therein.
  2. If you pay a fine via mail and you wish a receipt then you must include a SASE or the court will not mail you back a receipt.

Individuals can of course choose to pay in-person at the Court Clerk’s office and receipts will be issued upon payment.

Income changes: You can ask the court to reduce your monthly payment amount no more than twice per calendar year if your income decreases.

NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED

Wednesday: 9AM-12 & 1PM-3:30PM
Court to be held at 5:00PM
Thursday: 1PM-4:30PM
Friday: 9AM-12PM
